Royce Myers Gallery

Royce and Kay Myers started the Royce Myers Gallery in 1987. Royce began as an illustrator but decided to combine that experience with business and sales skills to sell art. “I love it…” Royce said of his work. “It’s as exciting for me to sell another artist’s work as it is my own.” Their passion shows in the wide array of paintings they sell, with works from local to international artists.

It’s hard to imagine while looking at that impressive selection, but the gallery actually has more humble beginnings. “We started very small and it just continued to grow and grow and grow…” Kay said. “This is where we’re at, but we didn’t start out like this.” In fact, they didn’t start as a gallery at all.

It began when Royce noticed a community that needed art. “I saw a need for interior designers and trades to have access to an affordable line of paintings,” Royce said. To meet that need, he started going to national shows and art expos, buying painting inventories, and driving across four states to sell them. After doing this, the couple decided to use their expertise to open a retail gallery, so they could better distribute to tradespeople. By the time they decided to open their gallery to the public as well, they had cultivated the wealth of experience and a solid community of artists that they’re known for today.

Although it was a long road, it’s obvious how much passion goes into running this gallery. “It’s a labor of love,” Royce says, smiling.

Headed by Royce and Kay Myers, The Royce Myers gallery is a family affair. Having raised their own children around art, they host events often and encourage families to come and see what they have to offer. “We welcome children in the gallery, because that can be the beginning of something amazing.” Kay said.

They speak of their artists like family as well, focusing on long-term connections and supporting the artists through their careers. “The key word is honesty,” Royce said. With clear and open communication, the gallery and artists are able to work together flexibly. Artists are also invited to every one of the gallery’s shows, and are encouraged to meet with each other to build relationships.
