At Budget Collector, we believe that the traditional online art-buying model stifles the growth of new artists and doesn’t promote the development of new art collectors. That’s why our approach is focused on increasing the number of art enthusiasts who can participate in the art world, whether they have the means to buy artwork or not. Other art-buying platforms often take a significant commission from artists, stifling the ability for emerging artists to be introduced to collectors who just might love their work. Our team wanted to envision a new type of world that would challenge that model by developing the consumer’s taste rather than taking directly from an artist’s pocketbook.
Our team believes in the power of feminine frameworks to guide our approach to developing technology. Too often, the tech industry is dominated by a narrow and exclusive set of perspectives that leave out important voices and viewpoints. We believe in creating technology that is inclusive, empowering, and supportive of diverse perspectives and experiences.
We apply these principles to every aspect of our work, from how we design and develop our app to how we interact with our users and stakeholders. Our goal is to create an environment that fosters positive consent, encourages the free expression of diverse ideas, and promotes a culture of respect and collaboration.
At Budget Collector, we’re not just creating an app. We’re building a community that values art, innovation, and social responsibility. We believe that by working together and applying the power of feminine frameworks to our work, we can create a more just, equitable, and inclusive world.
As a data science company, we use cutting-edge technology to create a more equitable art market. Our team of experts uses machine learning algorithms and other data analysis techniques to recommend artwork that fits your unique tastes and preferences. Our AI-powered recommendations are based on a proprietary algorithm that takes into account a range of factors, including your past purchases, art genre preferences, and other data points. With Budget Collector, you can be confident that you’re making informed and personalized decisions about your art purchases.
Our story began with two sisters who wanted to create a technology that could be used purposefully and ethically. As outsiders to the typical male-dominated tech industry, we questioned why technology companies seemed hostile to the poor and the underclass. We saw other technology companies not prioritizing ethical frameworks and building technologies that weakened the society we are all a part of. As we developed our technology, we focused on building on the feminine frameworks of positive consent, valuing every type of thought and perhaps even technology that brings us together rather than tearing us apart. This ethos has been with us, each moment of our build.
We’re proud to have a team that brings a unique blend of expertise and passion for art, technology, and partnerships to Budget Collector. Our product/marketing lead, Ebonique Boyd, is an avid art collector with extensive knowledge of the art collecting process, the market, and industry. Our technical lead, Anya Ellis, is a highly skilled engineer and data scientist with a background in computer science, data science, and machine learning. And our partnership lead, Ana Berry, is a seasoned professional with a diverse experience in media and partnerships.
Together, we’ve achieved some incredible things. We were selected as a Black Ambition (2022) Semi-finalist, participated in the Accenture (2022) Black Founders Program, and won the 1863 Ventures & AARP Innovation Lab For the Culture Award (2022). We were also chosen as a recipient of Fiverr’s Future Collective of Black Businesses Grant (2021) and received Stanford University’s BlackAIR (2021) grant for our project, AI-based fine art pricing. Additionally, we participated in the ActHouse Accelerator Cohort II (2022) and the National Science Foundation, and the University of Michigan’s Midwest iCorps program (2021), which gave us a small grant for customer discovery research.
We’re constantly striving to achieve more. We believe that our commitment to the power of feminine frameworks in technology and our passion for creating a more just, equitable, and inclusive world will help us do that.
